Parallel Palette

The Parallel Palette was created by portrait artist David Kassan, who wanted a better way to keep his palette and painting within the same visual space. Working with industrial designer David Lemyre, he turned that idea into a tripod-mounted palette designed around the way painters work.

More than a decade after its original release, Etchr and David Kassan have come together to bring the Parallel Palette back into production, staying true to the original design that artists have continued using for years.

We offer a two-year limited warranty, beginning at the time of purchase on all Etchr products sold. We warrant our products to be free from manufacturing defects in materials, workmanship, and failure or breakage of parts/full products that render them non-functional.

Is this the same Parallel Palette from the original Kickstarter?

Yes. We’re staying as true to the original Parallel Palette as possible.

The core concept, layout, and painting workflow remain unchanged. Any updates are being made only where necessary for modern production, materials, tooling, or supplier availability, and always in collaboration with David Kassan.

This is not a redesign or a reimagining. It's the return of the Parallel Palette that artists have been using, teaching with, and recommending for more than a decade.

Does the tripod come included?

No. The Parallel Palette is designed to work with standard camera tripods, allowing artists to choose the setup that best suits their studio, teaching, or plein air workflow.

Is the Parallel Palette suitable for left-handed artists?

Absolutely! Many artists use the Parallel Palette both in the studio and outdoors. Its tripod-mounted design makes it easy to position wherever you are working

Do I need a special tripod?

No. The Parallel Palette uses a standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount, making it compatible with most camera tripods.

Can I use the Parallel Palette for plein air painting?

Absolutely. The tripod-mounted design makes it easy to position outdoors, and the cover helps with transport by keeping your colours protected on the palette between sessions.

What mediums can I use with the Parallel Palette?

The Parallel Palette was originally designed around oil painting workflows and remains especially well suited to oils. That said, it can also be used with other painting media, including watercolour, gouache, acrylic, and similar paints. Just make sure to clean the mixing surface properly after use and avoid letting paint dry on the palette.

Is the glass mixing surface removable?

Yes. The tempered glass mixing surface is removable, making it easy to clean between painting sessions. 

Why is delivery estimated for April–May 2027?

The Parallel Palette is entering production following our successful Kickstarter campaign.

Bringing it back involves several stages, including final testing, tooling, manufacturing and quality control. We’ve built the time needed for each of these stages into our production schedule.

Orders placed here are expected to ship in April–May 2027, following fulfilment of our Kickstarter backers’ orders. We’ll keep you updated as production progresses.
